The ferry is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than air travel. The other thing to consider is that if you don’t make air reservations soon, the price will eventually increase since only a limited number of tickets are sold at each fare level. The cheapest tickets are the non-refundable ones, and those sell out first. I just checked for you on Aegean and the price of a ticket from Mykonos to Santorini or let’s say Santorini to Heralklion is over 100 euros EACH WAY. Add in the exhorbitant fees and taxes that they add on and you will pay at the very LEAST 200 euros for each leg of your journey. I don’t think it’s worth it. ALSO, keep in mind that to fly from each of the islands you mentioned to the other, you have a stopover in Athens!!
Rafina (outside Athens) to Mykonos is about 2 hours on the hi-speed boat, and about 4 on the other one. Mykonos to Santorini is at least 4 I think….. I don’t know about going to Crete. When I went, it was an overnight trip. Maybe it would be worth it to fly to Crete, but for the others I would take the ferry. It’s nice to see the beautiful blue water float by……
