I read about the Twilight Saga covers on Stephenie Meyer’s website. If you have any other twilight related questions I would suggest checking there (stepheniemeyer.com).
Twilight– Choice. The apple is often seen as a symbol of choice because of the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible. Eve have the choice to eat the forbidden fruit, and she does. In Twilight, Bella has the same type of choice, Edward being the forbidden fruit.
New Moon– Stephenie has said that she doesn’t even know what the New Moon cover has to do with the book. She didn’t choose itand can only make guesses like the rest of us.
Eclipse– The ribbon is a symbol of Bella’s love/relationship levels with Jacob and Edward. She is being torn between the two people that she loves the most in the world.
Breaking Dawn— The pawn represents Bella in the beginning of the series. Weak, not hard to defeat, and she needed to be protected. The Queen represents Bella after she becomes a vampire. She is strong and can manage for herself. The Cullens no longer have to look after her.
I know it was more than what you were asking for but I like to be thorough. Hope it helps!

    Twilight–
The apple means forbiden love and Edward and Bella share forbiden love.
    New Moon-
Edward and Bella make a flower. Edward leaving her is a petal falling off.
New moon is the darkest stage in night and when Edward left Bella she was in a dark stage in life.
    Eclipse-
The string being torn is Bella and Jacob being torn apart because Bella chooses Edward over Jacob.
An eclipse is when the sun and the moon overlap. Bella is forced to choose Edward over Jacob and so Edward (moon) is infront of Jacob (sun)
    Breaking Dawn-
The red pawn is when Bella hadn’t met Edward and she was weak and had little power but now (in the end) she is a white queen. She has so much power and she got what she wanted. To be a vampire.
Breaking Dawn is like the beginning of a new day. There are 2 reasons they chose this. in Breakin Dawn Edward and Bella have a child starting a new life (as in a new day) and the other reason is Bella has a new life and she’s happy, its like starting a new day because shes different and she has nothing to worry about.

The broken ribbon represents choice, as in the book Bella must choose between her love for the vampire Edward Cullen, and her friendship/love with the werewolf Jacob Black. Meyer also stated that the ribbon represents the idea that Bella can’t break away completely from her human life.

Its a ribbon and its like a choice between Jacob and Edward. Like if she chooses Edward then Bella’s and Jacob’s relationship might be torn.

okay, its not a string! its a ribbon, a broken one. It is represents that Jacob loves Bella and they are connected but b/c she chose Edward then their connection is broken. The reason it is red is b/c that is the color scheme!!
    Hope this helps,
    Jen

The smaller part of the torn string is her love for Jacob as a boyfriend. The bigger part of the string is her love for Edward. So basically its saying is that shes torn between jacob and Edward. But she loves edward more!
    yay team edward!

  7. twilight says:

it’s supposed to represent how Bella is torn between Edward & Jacob, the smaller part being Jacob and the larger part being Edward.

  8. Alice says:

well.. i saw where Stephanie Meyer [author] said that she had nothing to do with that cover and the ribbon doesnt mean anything..
i know the new moon one doesnt either [mean anything]
but the other two do.. if you dont know them i can tell you

  9. Kari says:

I think it is more of a ribbon….not a string. I can’t remember if there was anything in the book that referred to that or not…

  10. ~TaylorS says:

I think the break away from the same kind because Vampires kill vampires. Just as confused as you are!!

I think its Bella trying to choose between Edward or Jacob.
